A Foundation For Family

October 3, 2017/in Homeowner Stories/by CurlyHost

Patrice raised her family to love and sacrifice for each other no matter the circumstances. So when she had the opportunity to fulfill her dream of homeownership through Habitat Kent, her family came together with volunteers and donors to build a bright future. Last week, amongst her beautiful and growing family she dedicated her new home.

“We are a really close family, a lot of love, a lot of smiles,” Patrice said. “I’m thankful that my kids are as one.” Patrice has four children and three grandchildren. Her three youngest children Eugene, Joslyn and newborn baby, A’Miracle, will live with Patrice in the new home they helped build.

“We really thank Habitat for giving us this chance,” said Eugene, who completed a substantial amount of construction sweat equity hours including the final five hours required. “I really appreciate all I’ve seen and all I’ve learned.”

Both kids are excited to have their own space instead of living in cramped conditions. Joslyn has been designing the look of her new room. “She picked out her room before we had anything in the house, it was just boards standing up,” Patrice said.

Patrice is thankful for the homeownership skills she’s learned throughout the program and the wisdom she’s gained through the challenges of building a new home. She is looking forward to working in her yard and building a swing set in the backyard.

“I’m doing [this] for my kids and grandkids, they inspire me to do better,” Patrice said. “It’s a big time for me, I’m very thankful and appreciative.”

Thank you for being part of Patrice’s Habitat family and helping her build a safe, stable, and healthy home.
