Don't fall victim to bad refinishing …

The news is full of troubling stories about people being scammed by less than honest lenders, bad home loan offers, and victims who are struggling with foreclosures and housing hardships. The best way to counter this is through education. We encourage you to spread the word about making informed decisions on all your financial needs. If you know someone who may be interested in learning more about how to apply for consideration as a future Habitat homebuyer, we encourage you to have them contact regarding an upcoming Habitat for Humanity Application Housing Meeting. All attendees must register by calling or emailing:

We will need you to include your name, address, day/evening phone numbers in your email. We also encourage you to check out the Own a Home section of this website.

The Power of Recycling …

July 17, 2008

Since its opening 4 years ago, Habitat for Humanity of Kent County's ReStore has diverted an estimated 2,772,640 pounds or 1,386 TONS of material from the landfill. With ReStore's gross sales rising every year, that's a HUGE impact on the environment … and this is just from the Habitat Kent ReStore! Just imagine what the impact is with 37 ReStores in Michigan, and over 700 in the United States and Canada.

We invite you to get on board with our recycling efforts. We welcome your donations -- click here for a full listing of what we can accept. … and don't forget, we do offer free pick up for larger, harder to transport items.

We also have some exciting deconstruction projects underway so don't forget to stop in often and shop for great treasures -- and MAJOR bargains. Summer is a super time to dive into those home remodeling projects. Pick up great supplies from ReStore … and don't discard your materials in the dumpster. Give ReStore a call instead.

HFHKC Completes First LEED-certified Home Rehab

Habitat is known for building decent, affordable NEW homes. In the spring of 2008, HFHKC registered another “first” with the nation’s first LEED-certified "MAJOR GUT REHAB" of a home on Indiana NW. The home was reconstructed in partnership with Keystone Church, also the nation’s first LEED-certified house of worship. The reconstruction project wrapped up in May of 2008. The designation for a Major Gut Rehab is defined in the LEED for Homes Reference Guide - First Edition 2008 (page 3). Congratulations Habitat for another "first."
