New Seasonal DIY Contests!

We’re excited to launch our seasonal DIY ReStore contests! We know ReStore customers are finding great and creative ways to use items from ReStores for so many different types of projects all year round, so we’re expanding our contests! We’ll host four contests throughout the year, each with a different seasonal focus. Enter one or all of them and show off your skills for a chance to win great prizes!

2024 Summer DIY Contest: Outdoor Projects!

Show us your outdoor projects! Whether it’s a fire pit, new organization system for your garage or shed, or renovated camper – we want to see it! No outdoor project is too big or too small to enter.

Contest Guidelines

Complete an outdoor project using items purchased from a Habitat Kent ReStore (examples: fire pit, outdoor seating, patio, shed/garage projects, outdoor games, garden/landscape accessories, camping accessories, etc.);
50% of the items in the completed project must be purchased from Habitat Kent ReStore;
Snap before (if possible) and after pictures;
Email your project pictures and a short description to ReStoreDIY@habitatkent.org by Saturday, August 17, 2024;
Projects are not limited to those completed during the contest timeline – those completed previously may also be submitted;
NOTE: By submitting project photos, all contestants grant Habitat Kent use or publication of photos

Prizes

1st Place Prize = $50 to Habitat Kent ReStore
2nd Place = $25 to Habitat Kent ReStore
3rd Place = $15 to Habitat Kent ReStore

Contest Timeline

May 17 – August 17: Contest open for submissions
August 19 – August 23: Selection committee picks the top three entries;
August 26 – August 31: Public voting on the three finalists on Facebook;
August 31: Entry with the most votes at the close of public voting wins 1st place, entry with the second most votes = 2nd place, entry with the third most votes = 3rd place (NOTE: One vote per user, only votes on Habitat Kent ReStore’s Facebook page will be counted);
September 5: Winners will be notified via email and announced on social media

ReStore DIY Projects

2024 Earth Day Contest winner! Brenda bought a glass light fixture shade at ReStore for $1! She colored it with an antique gold rub and buff and uses it as a pot for plants! So unique and it looks great!

Sarah made a mud kitchen for her grandson using fence pickets. She repurposed a sink, faucet, 2 towel bars, several pots and pans and screws all purchased from Restore! It even hooks up to the hose with hose fittings she purchased from Restore as well.

Before: Jan used two rectangular surface-mounted spotlight boxes and chains from two hanging lamps from ReStore to make hanging planters.

Jane used cabinets, shelving, & lights from Restore to build out this utility trailer!
