Breaking Ground in Northern Muskegon
We’re thrilled to share that Habitat Kent is expanding into Muskegon County, and the construction of our very first home in the area is officially underway!
Recently, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the home located at 1351 Ada Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. This three-bedroom, one-bathroom home is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026. We were joined by many wonderful community partners at the event and are excited to continue working alongside them on this development and future projects.
Our work near the lakeshore will operate under a new DBA, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Muskegon, which will function as an extension of Habitat Kent. This effort will focus on building homes north of Sherman Road, including in the City of Muskegon and Muskegon Heights. During this early phase, operations will be run by Habitat Kent staff and board members, with the goal of recruiting a Muskegon-based board and staff as growth continues. You can read more about this expansion in Crain’s Grand Rapids Business.
Much of Muskegon County has been without a Habitat presence for years, even as the need for affordable, owner-occupied housing continues to grow. Habitat for Humanity of Northern Muskegon will help fill this gap by providing accessible homeownership opportunities and supportive programming for local families.
In addition to the home under construction at 1351 Ada Ave, we plan to complete three more homes by early 2027. The initial estimated sales price for all four homes is $165,000. As we establish a stronger presence in Muskegon, we will also be offering homeownership education classes to the public and those in our program, volunteer opportunities on our build sites, and future neighborhood engagement efforts. Volunteer sign-ups will open in January 2026.
We are proud to be expanding our service area to support even more families across West Michigan, and we look forward to building meaningful relationships with future homeowners, neighbors, and community partners in Muskegon.
