“Homeownership isn’t the only dream I’m believing in. I’m dreaming
that my family will be healthy. I’m dreaming that my kids will do
homework at the island in our kitchen so I can help them study while
I cook dinner. Because of Habitat for Humanity and this community,
my children and I are dreaming big dreams.”

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Kent County brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

OUR MOTIVATION: Putting God’s love into action
Motivated by the belief that each of us is called to “act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God,” Habitat for Humanity of Kent County seeks to be a partner and catalyst in building a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

OUR METHOD: Bringing people together
Habitat for Humanity of Kent County believes that no one lives in dignity until everyone can live in dignity. When the broad community is engaged in addressing the urgent need for adequate, affordable housing, we all become less vulnerable and more resilient. In bringing people together, Habitat Kent practices a philosophy of “a hand up, not a handout,” and builds on existing community assets: financial, physical, natural, human, social and spiritual.

OUR IMPACT: Homes, communities and hope
In seeking truly transformed communities, Habitat Kent views bringing people together not only as a way to deliver a product—improved housing—but as an essential process for building hope and believe that healthier communities are achievable and beneficial for all. When we work together, statistics become faces with names, stereotypes are broken, and everyone has the opportunity both to give and receive. Only then is lasting change likely to occur.

OUR PARTNERSHIPS: Doing our work with a commitment to equity
In spirit of partnership, Habitat Kent is intentionally focused on eliminating racism and working to ensure that all people, regardless of their race, have the resources and opportunities they need to reach their full potential. We will keep this focus on racial justice while revitalizing neighborhoods in the greater Grand Rapids community in partnership with the Habitat Board of Directors, homebuyers, donors, volunteers and staff.
