This July, we celebrated a milestone moment in the Pleasant Hills neighborhood as we hosted a joint home dedication and welcomed Emma, Keith & Jael, and their families into the community. Surrounded by friends and supporters, the families gathered to mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter.  

The celebration was made even more meaningful as neighbors from nearby Habitat homes stopped by to offer congratulations, share their experiences, and extend a warm welcome. The families also discovered that their sons are the same age and will be starting eighth grade this year. They’re excited to hang out and play video games together once they’re both moved in! 

Emma 

Emma has not yet closed on her condo but is on track to officially become a homeowner in the near future. For her, homeownership represents more than just having a place to live. It represents security and opportunity. 

A single mother of five and a dental hygienist, Emma spent the past seven years renting while working hard to build a brighter future for her family. After hearing about Habitat Kent from one of her patients, she decided to take the first step toward homeownership. Once she took that leap, her journey moved quickly. In just four months, she completed our program and was ready to close. 

Now, that dream is becoming a reality. 

As a homeowner, Emma is looking forward to providing a stable foundation where her children can grow and thrive. She describes her home as an investment in her family’s future and takes great pride in reaching this important milestone. 

Homeownership will also provide something many families dream of: greater financial flexibility. For Emma, that means creating more opportunities to make memories with her children, such as going on family vacations. 

Keith & Jael 

Keith and Jael’s journey to homeownership began with the goal of finding a place where their family could truly put down roots. 

The couple and their two teenage children had been living in a small two-bedroom apartment and were ready for more space and long-term security. They knew they wanted to remain in Grand Rapids and began searching for a path to homeownership. They found that through Habitat Kent. 

Keith shares that owning their home will provide their family with the space and comfort they need to reduce stress and improve their well-being. When asked what homeownership means to him, Keith said, “It represents a stable, permanent place for our family to grow.”  

As they settle into their new home, they are most excited about creating routines, making memories, and establishing a lasting foundation for their family’s future.

We are honored to celebrate this achievement with Emma, Keith & Jael, and their children. Their dedication to building a better future for their families is inspiring, and we can’t wait to see all they accomplish as homeowners. 

As Pleasant Hills continues to grow, so does the sense of community that makes the neighborhood so special. We look forward to welcoming many more families home in the months ahead.
