Community Outreach Coordinator

We are currently seeking a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator to join our team in Northern Muskegon County, MI. This position serves as an ambassador to the neighborhoods we serve. The coordinator plays a critical role in strengthening relationships through planning, coordinating, and implementing projects in partnership with neighborhood residents and organizations. Additionally, the coordinator will be an important member in identifying, cultivating, and supporting potential homebuyers from the communities where we are building homes. These relationships will help identify where Habitat's housing and community development solutions can intersect with identified needs and aspirations.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Builds relationships and partnerships with community residents, local organizations, and community stakeholders to support homebuyer education.
  • Identifies community improvement projects and implements them from planning through completion.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers for neighborhood projects.
  • Works collaboratively with the Neighborhood Revitalization Team to align residents’ hopes and dreams with the organization's strategic goals and gather community feedback on new developments.
  • Communicates with the public for the purpose of informing prospective homebuyers on the homeownership process with Habitat.
  • Represents the organization at community meetings, local planning efforts, and outreach events.
  • On occasion, present our program information and homebuyer education courses to groups of potential homebuyers or community partners.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Receives and maintains professional development training necessary to fulfill the minimum standards of the essential responsibilities.
  • Attends specific workshops, conferences, and trainings on inclusion on an annual basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Service field preferred OR a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the nonprofit community sector, with a focus on community organizing, engagement, and cooperative initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community development practices, including a familiarity with Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) principles.
  • Strong understanding of the local community and established networks in the designated service area, with a desire and ability to maintain a frequent and visible presence in the community.
  • Experience facilitating groups, instructing individuals, or working with volunteers, coupled with a strong ability to listen openly and discern the needs of community members.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, including at a minimum, bilingual competency in English/Spanish.
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight and as a team player who productively engages with others across varying levels of seniority.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • A passion for connecting and effectively working with diverse groups of people.
  • Understands and values inclusion and is committed to continued learning on the history of housing, race, and systematic injustice.
