Rock the Block
On Friday, April 25, 2008, Habitat neighbors from near and far will be gathering at the Steelcase Town Hall to ROCK THE BLOCK, so to speak. The cause for celebration: Habitat for Humanity of Kent County’s 25th anniversary.
25 years…250 decent, afford homes…hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours…millions of dollars in corporate and individual donations…thousands more in in-kind contributions…not to mention gazillions of nails, concrete, lumber, insulation, glass, hardware, cabling…
Incredible. Amazing. Life altering. Words don’t even come close to doing this phenomenal community transformation justice, as over 1000 Habitat family members in our community have been elevated by hope, and their home, to a achieve life goals that were once only a dream.
Stories abound…children, safe and secure in their homes, improve in school, graduate with honors, and go on to colleges, graduate programs, and world renowned universities. Parents excel at work, launch new careers, open businesses, become more involved in their schools and neighborhoods, and transform into community leaders. TENS of THOUSANDS of volunteers tear down preconceived walls as they build new relationships with co-workers, homebuyers, and new friends from different economic, social, religious, and cultural backgrounds. And this is just for starters.
To shine a light on the impact Habitat has had on thousands in our community, we invite you to ROCK THE BLOCK. We can’t do it without you.
P.S. Don’t sweat the details – this un-gala event gets right to the heart of the matter – raising money to build decent, affordable homes while enjoying great food, fun, music, and prizes without all the fashion fuss!
