Support Women Build and open new doors of opportunities!
Women Build

brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing issues facing millions of women and children in their local community.

Women Build

projects provide an environment in which women can feel comfortable learning skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn.

Women Build

is not about excluding men; it is about including women. The

Women Build

program enables women to discover for themselves that they can build Habitat homes.

To sign up for Habitat for Humanity of Kent County's Women Build program, contact Joni Jessup at jjessup@habitatkent.org or (616) 774-2431 ext 224.

Women typically make up 50 percent of Habitat’s volunteer force; yet often because of lack of training, they account for less than 15 percent of workers on the construction site. In the U.S., more than 70 percent of Habitat’s homes are built with women heads-of-household. By receiving training as part of the Women Build program, women are better equipped to maintain their homes for themselves and their children.

Safe, decent housing is critical to a child’s health and development, yet children are the single largest age group living in poverty. In the United States alone, more than 12 million children—one out of every six—live in poverty. The need is great, but it can be met - one house, one family and one neighborhood at a time. Please join us for Women Build and become a part of the solution.

Lowe's® is a national partner with Habitat for Humanity International and is the underwriter of the Women Build program. By 2013, Lowe's will have contributed nearly $40 million to Habitat. Lowe's offers in-store "How-To" clinics for women volunteers and homeowners. Lowe's employees also contribute thousands of volunteer hours each year.

When Kim’s friends asked her what she wanted to do to celebrate her (milestone?) birthday she said ..."spend the day at Women Build"! They all took time off of work for a day of framing and construction at Dawes and had a great time.

Thank you Kim, Jill and Barb for sharing your day with Habitat!
