East Grand Rapids Schools Support Habitat for Humanity of Kent County
Habitat for Humanity of Kent County is pleased to announce East Grand Rapids Schools staff, students and parents will partner together to build a home for a local Kent County family through fundraising and home building efforts during the 2008-2009 school year. The EGR Habitat project -- Buy it! Bling it! Build it! -- kicked-off with a Silent Auction at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Monday, October 27th, 2008, and continued with a float in the homecoming parade. During the busy holiday season, families were encouraged to purchase wall studs (2x4' boards) as an "alternate" holiday gift. The boards were then decorated by the students for use in the wall sets to be built during the Winter Wall Blitz. The wall studs sold for $100 each. Some classes purchased the $100 boards in lieu of teacher gifts. Scout troops sold them, and a group of EGR high school teachers got creative and sold hall passes and homework passes in order to buy one! Overall, more than $4000 was raised toward the total fundraising goal. Way to go PIONEERS!
