Simple. Decent. Affordable. Historic. And Produces Its Own Heat?

335 Freyling Place SE represents the most radical and energy efficient Habitat for Humanity of Kent County project ever built! This small, affordable home is being built in partnership with GRCC Tassell M-TEC New Construction students in the revitalized, historic Wealthy Heights neighborhood near the corner of Wealthy and Diamond on the southeast side of the City of Grand Rapids.

The home will be sold to a qualified hard working family who needs a hand up, not a hand out. Utilizing affordable, sustainable design, a super energy-efficient thermal envelope and renewable energy, Habitat for Humanity of Kent County aims to stretch the limits of green building with this “Koinonia” house plan.

The goal is to reduce the amount of energy needed to power the home, then to produce enough energy to heat itself. It’s also on pace to be Green Built Gold, LEED for Homes Platinum and ZeroStep certified.

This, our 300th home, has been featured on the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Home Tour and in World Habitat Day 2012.
