A Special Tribute

"But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing." - Matthew 6:3.

In 2002, Ivor Thomas, then Director of Operations for Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, contacted a local builder about the possibility of him roofing Habitat homes. “I called because I was becoming increasingly concerned about the safety and welfare of our volunteers on our 2 story house designs. He signed on gladly and donated the first one. He continued donating his time and talents—and that of his employees—and never once stopped to think twice about it. As a result, he and his workers are keeping our families dry and our volunteers safe.”

Over the past five years, this generous individual has donated his time and talents to roof more than 120 Habitat for Humanity of Kent County homes. When asked if we could acknowledge his efforts in this year’s annual report, he referenced one of his favorite Scriptures, indicating he prefers to “not let his left hand know what his right hand is doing.” Even though this generous donor quotes this verse—rest assured, he is ambidextrous when it comes to roofing homes! For that, and his tireless commitment to partnering with us to end substandard housing, we are eternally grateful.
