A Dream Come True

Nearly twenty-one years ago, Sharon Pimpleton was working two jobs while raising her children and occasionally helping out with the Head Start Program in Wyoming. An active member at Grace Christian Reformed Church, this single mother found a strong group of support as she worked hard to nurture her family. Back then, when asked about her future goals, Sharon was clearly focused on three things...raising her children, becoming a homeowner, and establishing a better job.

Now, Sharon has accomplished all three! Sharon is currently working at Cascade Engineering; her children are grown and living in Ohio, Michigan, and North Carolina. Sharon married Gerald Harris, the father of her children and since then, two little ones have come along! As one of Habitat’s earliest homebuyers, Sharon has just recently paid off her $78,000 mortgage, making her final homebuyer payment five years early!

When Sharon was asked what the years have been like working to pay off her mortgage and now owning her home, she had this to say:

“It is a dream come true. You don’t see this happening very much—many people I grew up with couldn’t afford their rent, or lost their house because of taxes. When you own your home it makes a big difference. We don’t have to worry about the landlord knocking on our door saying, ‘I come to pick up the rent money.’ I can remember the day we moved in — September 18, 1986. We are very blessed to have a home of our own. God has truly blessed us.”

Sharon ’s story is indeed a happy ending and shows that with hard work, perseverance, and maintaining the goal, dreams do come true!
